The 2023 election season is over and we almost have the official results. Some counties have certified election results, but not all. The deadline for certification is in early December, but the results are mostly complete.
There were Libertarian candidates across the state running for office for the 2023 elections. Of the 18 candidates, there were 6 victories.
In Chautauqua County, Ryan Sanders was re-elected Sherman Village Trustee, running for one of two positions in a race with only two candidates.
In Steuben County, Angela Einwachter was re-elected to Prattsburgh Town Council in a two-way race with two seats available.
In Oneida County, there were two victories. Oneida County Libertarian Party Chair Keith Redhead was elected Ava Town Supervisor in a contested two-way race against Republican candidate David C. Mathis, Sr. Also in the Town of Ava, Kathleen Redhead was elected Tax Collector—the first victory for the Libertarian Party of New York for that type of office.
In the Town of Marilla in Erie County, cross-endorsed candidate Earl Gingerich, Jr. won his race for Town Supervisor while Sharon Forersch won her race for Town Clerk.
Congratulations to the winners and congratulations and thank you to everyone who ran for office to represent the Libertarian Party this year! We don’t have automatic ballot access and we are also no longer a recognized party in the state, and yet, we still had candidates on the ballot—and still had victories!
