CICERO, NEW YORK – Cicero Town Councilor, Mike Becallo, is changing his political party to one that fits him best, the Libertarian Party. Known as the ‘Taxpayers’ Watchdog,” Becallo has been a champion of liberty since first being elected in 2014.
His tireless fight for lower taxes, smaller government and ethics reform has set him apart amongst the political status quo.
“We are extremely excited about Mike Becallo and the Libertarian Party joining forces,” said Shawn Hannon, Chair of the Onondaga County Libertarian Party. “Together we are hoping to make real change in how government works for the people.”
“In my time in office, I have met many disenfranchised voters who are fed up with the political system. I want to give them another option. The time is right for me to start helping move the Libertarian Party forward,” said Becallo. “I hope this motivates additional elected officials with similar views to join the growing liberty movement.”
The Onondaga County Libertarian Party was established in 2016 as a chapter of the Libertarian Party of New York and includes the city of Syracuse.
“The Libertarian Party proudly welcomes Mike Becallo as a registered voter officially affiliated with our party,” said Mark Glogowski, LPNY Chair. “As a member of the Libertarian Party, Mike’s message will ring loud and clear – our government should be empowering you, not controlling you. Our government should be working to help you, not working to help itself. We look forward to supporting Mike as he works to stop the growth of government’s intrusion into our lives.”
“We welcome Mike Becallo to the Libertarian Party,” said Jim Rosenbeck, LPNY Vice Chair. “We are all born libertarian naturally endowed with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As the two old parties increasing endow themselves with greater authority over our lives and liberty, the pursuit of happiness has become a more difficult proposition. Welcome home Mike!”
“While our goal is to get candidates elected, we’re happy to take the win of one of the good guys joining the correct team while already in office,” said Brian Waddell, LPNY Vice Chair and Political Director. “We’re glad that Mike has chosen to make a public statement of his dedication to liberty by switching his enrollment to Libertarian. We look forward to working with him to continue fighting for every individual in Onondaga County and the entire state of New York.”
A press conference will be held today at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Syracuse and will be live streamed on Facebook on the LPNY’s page (www.facebook.com/LPNewYork). For interview requests, please contact shawnOCLP@gmail.com.
