Remembering Petitioner Darryl Bonner

The Libertarian Party lost one of its most dedicated and consistent workers when Darryl Bonner of Pennsylvania passed away suddenly last month at age 59.

Darryl’s efforts as a paid petitioner were unsurpassed. He was personally responsible for tens of thousands of signatures to help place Warren Redlich, Gary Johnson, Michael McDermott, Larry Sharpe and so many others on the ballot in New York.

He often spent countless hours petitioning in front of the Pathmark on 125th Street in Harlem, or in Coney Island, or in Queens, Syracuse and Albany. Darryl was truly indefatigable in his efforts for many years for us.

On the downside, no matter how hard I tried I could not convince him to root against the Philadelphia Phillies. While he was a great fan of New York, Darryl loved his hometown for its cheesesteaks and so much more.

The LPNY mourns his passing.

  1. Darryl almost single-handedly got Jo Jorgensen on the Alabama ballot in 2020. As we start the 2024 drive in Alabama, he will be sorely missed because it’s a tough one, especially without Darryl at the Birmingham DMV (his favorite spot in 2020).

    R. I. P. Daryl Bonner.
I first met Daryl in Baltimore in the mid ‘80’s. Our paths crossed many times for many years.
