Libertarians believe that all people should be free to live their lives and pursue their interests as they see fit as long as they do no harm to another. We also oppose the initiation of force to achieve political or social goals. The incident at the United States Capitol building yesterday, where protesters invaded in an attempt to stop the certification of the Presidential election, flew in the face of these beliefs, and does not represent Libertarian values.
We support those who wish to engage in peaceful political protest – even on topics with which we do not agree – and recognize that the vast majority of those who traveled to Washington DC for the protests on January 6th did not engage in anything greater than that.
To be clear, the Libertarian Party of New York condemns the initiation of force to achieve political or social goals.
