At 1:30 p.m. this afternoon (Tuesday, August 21, 2018) the Libertarian Party of New York filed petitions at the New York State Board of Elections in Albany to place Larry Sharpe on the ballot this November.
Over 31,000 registered New York voters signed, indicating they want another choice in 2018. LPNY Chair Jim Rosenbeck said “a vote for Larry Sharpe in November is a vote for personal liberty, economic opportunity and hope for the future of New York State.”
Larry Sharpe has travelled extensively throughout New York State holding meet and greets, town halls, and interviews, including many smaller towns and cities that gubernatorial candidates don’t normally campaign, striving to rethink government and empower the people of New York. He is speaking to larger groups as his campaign continues and he has also garnered a strong social media following, outperforming all of the incumbent governor’s opponents on Facebook. Petitioning began six weeks ago, on July 10, 2018. The Libertarian Party set a goal of 30,000 signatures to get our statewide candidates on the ballot: Larry Sharpe for Governor, Andrew Hollister for Lt. Governor, Chris Garvey for Attorney General, and Cruger Gallaudet for Comptroller. Only 15,000 signatures were required, but we needed at least double to ensure we can defeat any challenges. Not only did we reach our goal, but we beat it by 1,615 signatures!
We had double the volunteer effort this year than in 2016, especially with excitement of Mr. Sharpe’s strong campaign that has inspired numerous volunteers and supporters. In total, we collected 31,615 signatures. Over the past weekend, our team in Schenectady sorted and bound all of our petitions and brought them to the Board of Elections for filing. Now, we wait.
